Family History Book: Jane Starling

Only Known Generation: Jane Starling (1824-1890)

Jane Starling was probably born in Ireland (county and parish unknown), but emigrated to America where she married Sylvester F. Hutchinson of Buffalo, Erie County, New York. They had one child, Laura (or Loretta) Henrietta Hutchinson. Sylvester died in 1854, when Laura was only about 7 years old. By 1860 Jane had remarried to John C. Cattell, another emigrant. When Laura and her husband, James Griffin Hughes, moved to Marietta, Georgia, Jane and John Cattell also moved there, where both eventually died and are buried.

mtDNA Evidence

Since I'm a matrilinear descendant of Jane (Starling) Hutchinson Cattell, I decided to have my mtDNA tested to see if that would help discover her ethnic or genetic origins. Of the 12 exact matches in the FTDNA database, all said their earliest known mitochondrial ancestress' origin was in Ireland, so I'm accepting that pending more information, if any ever becomes available. Of course, being of Irish ancestry doesn't mean she was born there, or that her father, presumably a Mr. Starling, was Irish, but it's all we have for now, and that's more than we knew before the test results. Her (and my) mtDNA haplogroup is H1m.
