mtDNA Evidence
- Since I'm a matrilinear descendant of Jane (Starling) Hutchinson Cattell, I decided to have my mtDNA tested to see if that would help discover her ethnic or genetic origins. Of the 12 exact matches in the FTDNA database, all said their earliest known mitochondrial ancestress' origin was in Ireland, so I'm accepting that pending more information, if any ever becomes available. Of course, being of Irish ancestry doesn't mean she was born there, or that her father, presumably a Mr. Starling, was Irish, but it's all we have for now, and that's more than we knew before the test results. Her (and my) mtDNA haplogroup is H1m.
