Family History Book: Sylvester F. Hutchinson (1824-1854)

Very little beyond his dates of birth & death, and the bare bones of his genealogy, is known about this ancestor. In fact, it was only recently that a record of his death was found beyond the inference that he had died sometime before 1860 and his widow had remarried, since she and their daughter were in her second husband's household in the census that year. For that matter, it was even possible that they had divorced instead. But now we think we know that he did die in 1854, although I still have not seen a death certificate, just his name and date of death in an index. That is also where I discovered he had a middle initial, although not what it stands for. Just to add an element of confusion, he is listed in the 1855 New York state census with wife Jane and daughter Lora! Who knows how that happened. It could have been a lazy census taker, or his widow could have given his name not realizing he would be listed as head of household. There is no way to know at this point.

So, the only thing we know for certain is that he was born on 7 June, 1824 in Columbia County, New York.
