Family History Book: Elias S Watson (1830-Bef. 1880)

Elias S Watson was born about 1830. His father was possibly named John Aaron Watson and his mother was probably Lucinda Monk Holman, although Elias may have been a son of Mr. Watson's theorized first wife, the mother of Richard W Watson. In the 1840 census, Lucinda was shown as head of household with three male children, who are presumed to be Richard, Elias and Charles. In 1850, Lucinda had been married to Odell Odom and only Charles was living with his mother. Richard had his own household, with his wife, Mary Ann Cox, and Elias was living with them. By 1860 Elias was married to his second wife, Catharine, and had two children, Winnie A L Watson and Samuel J Watson, living in Calhoun County, Alabama. He had married Elizabeth Day in 1851, but presumably she had died and he remarried. Winnie was born in 1858, Samuel in 1859. Elias and Catharine had three more children, but not until after the Civil War. They were Missouri, born in 1866, Robert, born in 1869, and Elizabeth, born in 1874. We only know of children of Samuel, and have lost sight of the other children of Elias and Catharine.-
Elias, who had worked as a sawyer in Alabama, became a shoemaker by the time he enlisted in Co. G, 10th Alabama Regiment from Jacksonville, Calhoun County, Alabama. After the war, he and Catharine settled in Troup County, Georgia, where he worked as a miller.
