Possible Ancestry of Sir Gamel de Pennington

The Percy connection

Based on tradition and the Pennington coat of arms, which strongly resembles that of the Percy family, it has been suggested that Gamel de Pennington was an acknowledged illegitimate son of an early Percy family member. The Pennington coat of arms is identical to an early Percy one, with the colors reversed. Since these emblems were very important at the time, and followed strict rules, this is probably not a coincidence, providing evidence (although certainly not proof) of a connection between the families. There is even a tradition that names the family from which Sir Gamel's mother came, although not her given name or exact place within that family.
