: Born in 1655 at the family seat of Langleys in Much Waltham (now called Great Waltham), Chelmsford Parish, Essex) the younger son of Sir Richard Barrington Everard and his wife, Elizabeth Gibb, Hugh became the third baronet when his older brother predeceased their father. He married Mary Brown, daughter of Dr. John Brown of Salisbury.

: Sir Hugh served as Receiver General of the Land Tax, and as Justice of the Peace. Unfortunately, he was one of many speculators who invested their fortunes in the South Sea Company. When that bubble burst (in 1720), his son had to sell Langleys, where 7 generations of his family had lived.

: He died on January 2, 1705/6 at Langleys.
